- What have you learned so far that you can apply in your instructional practice?
Thus far I have learned about the sites that I have posted in the past posts that I will be using with my students to stay afloat with "digital learning."
- What goals are you still working toward?
I am still working on what skills to apply to students in order to make the "digital learning" experience diverse. However, I cannot accomplish this until I know who my students will be come fall.
- Based on the NETS-T, what new learning goals will you set for yourself?
A new goal I would like to focus on is one that I can begin now without my students. The goal is communication and collaboration. Within this goal I want to specifically focus on how to:
"communicate information and ideas effectively to multiple audiences using a variety of media and formats." |
- What learning approaches will you try next time to improve your learning?
Next time I will begin to focus on my new goal by signing up for educational blogs and connecting an RSS reader to the blogs in order to stay up to date with the newest ideas.
Veronica,
ReplyDeleteYou mentioned that you are not able to work on skills you can apply to students in order to make the "digital learning" experience diverse, until the fall. I may have to suggest that you look at this task again and think big picture, not just for this fall’s class. I am certain that you have experience to draw from and that your school keeps a similar demographic each year; why not plan a few things for a cultural impact, for the special education or lower achieving students in your class, extension activities for the gifted and talented students, etc.? You certainly can’t specify the details of which students will need which skills, but you may find benefit in having a jumpstart with your overall thoughts.
Best of luck to you,
Kelly H.
Veronica,
ReplyDeleteI am like you, I have a few more weeks until I find out who my new students will be, but I am getting excited as it draws closer. I already have a couple of ideas I cannot wait to get started on.
One idea I want to do is start a new blog or wiki for my class right at the beginning of the year and just start with a basic intro and a question or two. Then as the year goes on, I would like to have my students create their own, learn to follow others, and just grow throughout the year. Basically baby steps right from the start and see where the year takes us.
I was thinking about your communication goal, and I think that a blog will be a good starting point. However, this year like last year, I will encourage students and parents who have emails to put them into our new grade program. With a couple of mouse clicks I can send an email to all daily, weekly, etc. The idea of a facebook page is finally going to happen, because a lot of people have that. I figure I will post what we did in class each day so everyone gets updates later when checking too. I am just trying to cover all the bases, including occasional phone calls too.
Never stop learning, that is a idea I live by not just because of new technology, but because we should never stop learning! Keep up the good work!
Kelly, You are so right. I can begin to plan ahead but preparing for students who are gifted and talented and students who need extra help, however I meant that I cannot assign specific skills. For example, I may have a student who is strong with math but needs help with decimals, for this I need to wait for the fall. I cannot go on these sites and assign, although I can and I have visited the sites to familiarize myself with what they have to offer.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the suggestions ;)
Veronica
Mike,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your inspiring response. I also cannot wait for the year to start. I love your idea of kicking off the year with a wiki or a blog. I think I will do the same. I need my students to not only use the blog for fun but to rely on it as a source of information. In addition, I was always hesitant about using facebook but you just explained in short words why we should use it. Is it the best way to communicate with parents while reaching all of them at once. Great idea!
Veronica
What i do is send out a post card with a online survey on it. We usually know our class information about a week and a half before school starts. This might be a good way to start communication.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea!!!
